how time flies

it's been 20 delightful months and i can't stress enough that not a day goes by without you pulling on some surprise on another. An update on your progress, you started your first taste of rice cereal at 4.5 months, crawled at 6, and walked 3 days after your 1st birthday. Btw, there was no 1st birthday celebration because 1) Grandma was too tired to host anor party, 2) Mum was too poor to buy food for everyone and 3) turned out you developed chicken pox one week prior to the big day so it was just as well.

"Bye" was your first word at 8 months, and "apple" your second uttered at "10 months". Today, you're a bright little spark and can say many, many words. You know while other mummies brag about their little boys, I'm really just too modest to say outloud that, "really? well, wait till you see what my little J is capable of!" Seriously!

Your Grandad Jeff gave you your first haircut. That makes about 8 months worth of fighting off every attempt by every member in the clan about snipping your virgin mane - tough work!

Something happened yesterday - Grandma said you saw a picture of a lady dressed in the korean hanbok and was reminded of me that you bawled your eyes out. Then you rang me and kept saying you were sad in between tears. My little darling, you really broke my heart into pieces. I felt so sad I was about to cry with you and then Grandma hung up.

Oh, and potty training, well, i tried (for about 2 days) and it still didn't work. You'd alarm me only after you got wet. Oh well. More Lulu Loo's to read I guess.

Sunshiny day

'Sunshine' from daddy (;

Firstly, I must say you were really something to have crossed so many legs and hurdles just to get your hands on that chicken drumstick, before chewing on a tip, and smearing the oil all over your right eye.

It's a sunshiny day. And I'm not talking about the weather, but that Daddy has just surrpised me with sunflowers at the office. He knows I've been a drifting cloud of gloom with us weaning you off breastmilk. The progress, if you are even remotely interested, is that you now suckle only once before bedtime, and once in the morning before I head off to work. Last night, you kept us up for 30 mins trying to coax you to drink the water instead of milk. But thank you, for making it easy for us.

Happy 1st birthday

Tomorrow, you will celebrate your lunar first birthday. It's gonna be a little hard for you to understand what's going on but here's the plan.

9am: I plan to take you shopping at Tampines, where we will get some of those nice mini buns, and some juice from the supermarket so the XANX cousins can have a little treat. Mummy's gonna be driving all alone, so it's best that you stay put in the car seat which i know you hate, but for safety's sake, please do not free yourself out of the safety belt.

10am: At grandaunt's. There will be several items for you to select from. This is a chinese tradition that both mummy and uncle pig went through on our first birthday. whatever you do, please do not pick up the chicken drumstick and/or the bible/monk's beads. My wish for you is never to turn out to be a glutton, or a priest/monk (although I pray every night that you would be a god-fearing, righteous man).

10.30am: Party time. Do not stuff yourself silly with the bread.

11am onwards: R&R. Although Mummy's seen this cute little pair of shorts at Far East Plaza and am thinking of checking it out therefore, you might have to endure another drive to Orchard Road. We'll see.

Happy birthday, big boy!
Your first birthday party - sorry that you were struck with chicken pox. And for the record -
the choice of cake wasn't on purpose.
